Happy New Year! End of Year Donations. January Jamboree
It has been a particularly tough time this year, and as many of you, we are thankful to see the year 2020 come to a close.
We are surviving because of donors like you who have supported us through this trying time. As we put hope into the prospect of this “New Year” being better, a last-minute donation for the end of this year could truly make a difference for us here at the Barberville Pioneer Settlement.
In 2019, between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we served almost 1,900 school children with our Holiday Traditions field trip. This year we have had about 90 children.
The infrastructure here at the Settlement is aging and things continue to fail. We have recently found out we need a new hot water heater for our summer kitchen and a new underground electric service needs to be installed. One day we hope to be able to reach the point of being proactive rather than reactive but for now, we must do the best we can with what we have. Making lemonade out of lemons as my Grandma used to say.
If you are in a position and haven’t already made a donation, now would be an opportune time to contribute to our General Operating or Field Trip Relief Fund. To those of you who have donated more than once already, we are doubly and triply blessed by your continued support.
In twelve days we are hosting our first ever January Jamboree. There are changes to the event that have been put in place in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. It was decided months ago by our Board of Directors and our Events Committee not to host the circle jams and workshop tents, which typically put people in close proximity to each other and therefore at higher risk. At this time we are standing firm on that decision and will consider possibly adding them back, in a moderated fashion, for the April event – our Spring Frolic on April 10th & 11th.
Remember to bring your lawn chairs as seating at the performance tents will be much more limited and spread out. Also, there will not be dancing, the silent auction will be in the auditorium and we are not providing bus transportation from off-site parking. We thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding of these temporary changes.
On behalf of all of us here at the Barberville Pioneer Settlement, I thank you for your support and wish you a very Happy and Healthy New Year!
